About Marlo Bennett, LMFT
Marlo Bennett, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), has 18 years experience in private practice psychotherapy, psychiatric crisis evaluation, inpatient, outpatient, and residential substance abuse and dependence treatment programs,  community mental health, university education, and consulting. She has developed a practical change model, and clients report this is very helpful to them.

“I chose a Marriage and Family Therapy training program for the Systems theoretical orientation of the profession. To understand an individual or couple's challenges, Systems Theory considers the influence of interpersonal relationships in the individual/couple's family, work, and social life. Traditional psychology looks for a defect within the person.

We are interconnected with our family, business associates, and friends. When you change, the balance shifts in each system of which you are a member - family, work, friends. Effective counseling takes this into account and helps prepare you to appropriately cope with others' responses. A Marriage and Family Therapist, when appropriate and with your approval, may suggest you invite significant others to attend some therapy sessions with you to assist all in adapting to the changes."

Marlo is a firm believer in “when I believe it, I’ll see it.” She finds visualization and affirmations to be powerful therapeutic tools. Her personal experience with these enabled her to take a year-long leave of absence to travel around the world in 1995-96 visiting 15 countries.

Marlo has a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and additional coursework in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Upon completing a required 3,500 hour post-graduate internship, she passed the rigorous written and oral licensing examinations. She is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Utah and California and a Certified Hypnotherapist. In addition to private practice, she has been an instructor of psychology at Utah Valley State College and a guest lecturer at the Graduate School of Psychology, California State University, Long Beach. She upholds the highest ethical standards of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and is devoted to utilizing practices that optimize the client’s potential.
