Therapy is a thought-provoking, significant educational opportunity
that can be the foundation of a lifelong process of self-enlightenment.
It provides a special opportunity to increase your satisfaction
with yourself, your relationships, and your career. You will gain
skills you can build upon and use throughout your life.
My goal is to provide a warm, congenial atmosphere so you can
be at ease in expressing your desires and needs. I conceptualize
therapy as a team effort: you are the expert on yourself, and I’m
an expert in methods and skills to help you achieve your desired
changes. Together, we create a winning team! You can be assured
your appointments will be held in confidence and conducted with
the utmost integrity.
Individual Therapy
If you sincerely want to gain more fulfillment from life or
would like guidance overcoming areas of concern or life challenges,
individual therapy can provide you with support and assist with
solutions. Through a series of candid conversations you receive
genuine, practical information that will assist you in pursuing
your goals. You will be respectfully guided to discover more effective
ways of self-expression, so you can experience greater satisfaction
in your life and pursue your full potential. Benefits to be gained
include a better understanding of yourself, greater self-acceptance,
increased self-esteem, improved relationships, and more effective
behavioral and communication skills.
Substance Abuse Counseling
Overcoming a reliance on alcohol or drugs requires the support
of a professional who is trained and skilled in the specialized
area of recovery from addictions. You’ll be provided with uncomplicated
instructions on what steps to take to recover, and you’ll learn
alternative, non-drug methods for dealing with life. You will receive
straightforward, educational information that will aid you in understanding
your addiction. Counseling will also assist you in discovering the
pleasure of respecting and liking yourself, so you can continue
to grow and pursue your goals!
Depending upon your needs, either a risk-reduction or abstinence
approach is utilized. If you desire, the philosophy of a 12-step
program can be integrated into your therapy. 12-step program involvement
is a personal choice and not a requirement. Throughout your counseling,
you will be treated with respect and without judgment.
Couples Counseling
Our
increasingly complex society places many demands on relationships.
A marriage and family therapist, as an objective observer of your
interactions, can assist you in gaining a better understanding of
yourself and your partner. Working as a team, you can learn new
ways of communicating more effectively and find new solutions to
your differences. Effective couples counseling requires that both
partners be willing to try new ways of communicating and interacting.
It is sometimes necessary, and can be very challenging, to question
your beliefs about your relationship and your assumptions about
your partner and his/her intentions. Among the rewards for this
work is the development of a fulfilling, harmonious, and satisfying
partnership that can be a haven from the pressures around you.
Hypnosis
R
– E – L – A – X. Listen to my voice…and reap the benefits of hypnosis.
When used in a therapeutic setting, hypnosis is a focused concentration
on one thing – the therapist’s verbal instructions. It can be a
very practical aid in increasing therapy’s effectiveness. Hypnosis
is a naturally-occurring state of mind that you can learn to access
at any time. You are always in control of yourself. In fact, the
therapist is only a guide. Hypnosis is a form of communication between
you and the therapist that allows you to hypnotize yourself. You
have the choice and power to end the hypnosis at any time. You will
remember what happened during hypnosis, and you will not reveal
secrets. One of the remarkable qualities of hypnosis is that it
allows your subconscious mind to work to your benefit while you
go about your daily activities! All that is required for success
is a willingness to participate, the ability to follow direction,
and an openness to imagination.
